As a part of the International School Award Activity, the members of the Geography Club of Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar have organized a programme on climate change and global warming in USA, UK, Japan, China and India. The students of class X and XII presented a PowerPoint presentation on climate change and impact of global warming in USA, UK, Japan, China and India on 28th July, 2009.
The chief guest of the programme was Dr. A. Arivudainambi, Director, Climate change programme, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Taramani. He addressed the students about the causes, effects and four levels of mitigation of climate change – Individual community, National and International level.
The following students were given prizes for the PowerPoint presentation on various topics related to climate change.
I Prize - Gulshan Reddy and Gopalakrishnan of Class X
Topic – Management and Disposal of Hazardous waste.
II Prize - C. Anirudh of Class X
Topic - Development without Destruction
III Prize - Aditya Ram, Amogh Adisesha and Venkatnath G of Class X
Topic - Climate change and Global warming
Consolation Prize - Vikas Anand B.M of Class IX
Topic – Development of renewable sources of energy.
Models were made by the students of Class IX on wind energy, hydel energy, solar energy and nuclear energy. Students of class VIII have prepared charts on the data pertaining to distribution of temperature and rainfall and the crops grown in USA, UK, Japan, China and India.
Students of class VI prepared a number of things like pen holder, letter pouch, files, bookmark, etc from the Best out of Waste. The students also highlighted the slogan on waste management “Recycle, Reuse and convert into energy”.
