Asia Pacific Young Leaders Summit (APYLS) was organized by Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore. 12 countries, 27 schools, 27 teachers and 81 students across the globe have participated in APYLS. Our school participated in the summit for the third consecutive year. Barath Mahadevan, Srivatsan B, Viswesh Narayanan of Class XII and the Vice Principal Mrs. S. Meenakshi represented the APYLS this year. The 10 day summit was inaugurated by the honorable Minister for Education Ms. Grace Fu. The theme of this year’s APLYS was “CONVERGING DIVERGENCES: CONFLUENCE, CHANGE AND CONTINUITY IN THE MODERN WORLD”. This was the appropriate pertinent as the summit offered a high-profile platform for top students leaders and Teacher Chaperones to interact, network, forge friendship as well as to explore the challenges and opportunities that await them.
The delegates also met the Reverred Hon. President Mr. S.R. Nathan at the Istana. The delegates visited the Nanyang Technological University, Agency for Science Technology and Research Centre (ASTAR), Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Changi Coast, Southern Ridges, Night Safari, Singapore Airlines, Sentosa, Under Water World, Dolphin Show, Urban Redevelopment Board, Land Transport Authority, Housing Development Board, NE Water Plant, Media Corp, Singapore Press Holding, Science Centre, Bio Medical Research Council, Community Centre, Singapore Investment Corporation and Economic Development Board. They also had a chance to visit the Singapore Youth Festival Dance Performance.
Through the summit dialogues with the top Government officials and representatives from both private and civic bodies, the delegates gained rich experience and exposure to leadership roles in various fields.
The delegates also discussed various issues related to environment, education, politics, security and finance. It was a wonderful opportunity for all the delegates who took part in the summit since it empowered them with the confidence to achieve much more than what they believed was possible.
